Why does a commercial bottle of beer explode in the freezer, while homebrew doesn't?

I am sometimes in a hurry to drink my beer cold and the fridge just doesn't cut the mustard, so i use the freezer. Commercial beer will explode while my homebrew just freezes. Would it have something to do with the fact i bottle my homebrew in plastic?
