Video game designing and collage?

im learning to program and im seeing these great homebrew games like angry birds that are making tons. i know most companies wont think twice about you if you dont go to collage but if i had something like angry birds to back me up on my resume you think companies like valve would reconsider just food for thought. i have time because im still in high school.
